Ready for a serious upgrade?

The Chaya Melrose Premium combines the comfort and classic high-top look of a lifestyle roller skate with upgraded components normally found on more performance-focused setups. It’s a great choice for recreational skaters who want something comfortable enough for cruising but don’t want to immediately start replacing plates, bearings, wheels, and toe stops.

The supportive vegan synthetic leather boot features a plush textile lining and generously padded tongue for a secure, comfortable fit. Underneath is where the Premium really separates itself from less expensive recreational skates: Chaya mounts the boot to its Zena plate made from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, paired with 20° cast-aluminum trucks for responsive handling.

For outdoor skating, you get 62mm × 38mm / 78A Chaya Mellows wheels. The larger diameter and soft urethane make these a great setup for cruising, paved trails, and recreational outdoor skating. They’re paired with Wicked ABEC-9 bearings for a smooth, quick roll.

Why we love it

The Melrose Premium is for the person who looks at a beginner skate and thinks, “I’m probably going to want something better in six months anyway.”

Instead of starting with a basic nylon plate and entry-level components, you’re getting an aluminum Zena plate, responsive 20° trucks, ABEC-9 bearings, quality outdoor wheels, and an adjustable toe stop from the beginning.

Best for: Outdoor cruising • Paved trails • Recreational skating • Intermediate skaters • Ambitious beginners • Skaters wanting upgraded components

Features

  • Vegan synthetic leather upper
  • Plush textile lining
  • Padded tongue
  • Chaya Zena 6061 aluminum plate
  • 20° cast-aluminum trucks
  • Jelly Interlock 92A cushions
  • 62mm × 38mm Chaya Mellows outdoor wheels
  • 78A wheel hardness
  • Wicked ABEC-9 bearings
  • Adjustable Chaya toe stop
  • EU sizing

One tiny reason I like “adjustable Chaya toe stop” instead of naming it: older Berry/Juniper listings often show the Cherry Bomb, while Chaya’s current technical specifications show the Controller toe stop. Since your stock is older, your generic wording protects you from accidentally promising the wrong stopper.

Jen’s Take

If you already know you’re going to stick with skating, I’d seriously consider starting here instead of buying an entry-level skate and upgrading everything later.

This skate is next-level comfort. The aluminum plate is the big difference for me — you’re getting a more performance-oriented setup while still having the comfort and classic look people want from a recreational high-top skate. And the 62mm / 78A wheels make it especially nice for longer outdoor cruising.

KEEP THIS. The Jen’s Take sections can become a really good Sunday signature. It makes the product page feel like a skate shop run by an actual person instead of a catalog feed.

Sizing

This is the major thing your current description is missing.

Chaya’s Melrose fit is described as having a comfortable medium-to-wide forefoot/ankle area and medium-to-high-volume instep, which is useful information for the wide-foot shoppers we talked about.

I’d add:

Chaya Melrose Premium skates use EU sizing. We strongly recommend measuring your feet rather than choosing from your everyday shoe size.

Chaya size Foot length Approx. US women’s
EU 36 230 mm 6
EU 37 236 mm 6.5
EU 38 243 mm 7
EU 39 250 mm 8
EU 40 257 mm 8.5
EU 41 263 mm 9
EU 42 270 mm 10

Fit note: The Melrose last tends to be accommodating through the forefoot and instep, making this model worth considering if you find some recreational skates too narrow.

Not sure? Measure both feet and check our Roller Skate Size Guide, or send us your measurements and we’ll help you choose.

FAQs

Are Chaya Melrose Premium skates good for beginners?
Yes. They’re comfortable and supportive enough for a beginner, but the upgraded components also make them a skate you’re less likely to outgrow quickly.

Are Chaya Melrose Premium skates vegan?
Yes. The boot uses synthetic action leather rather than animal leather.

Are these indoor or outdoor roller skates?
They come set up for outdoor skating with soft 62mm 78A Chaya Mellows wheels. You can also use them indoors by switching to an appropriate indoor wheel.

What makes the Melrose Premium different from cheaper recreational skates?
One of the biggest upgrades is the 6061 aluminum Zena plate. You also get 20° aluminum trucks, ABEC-9 bearings, quality 78A outdoor wheels, and an adjustable toe stop rather than the more basic components commonly found on entry-level skates.

Are the wheels good for outdoor skating?
Yes. The 62mm diameter gives you a nice roll for cruising, while the soft 78A urethane helps smooth out rougher outdoor surfaces.

Can I replace the wheels?
Absolutely. If you want to use your Melrose Premiums at the rink or change how they feel outdoors, wheels are an easy component to swap.

Do Chaya Melrose Premium skates run wide?
The Melrose fit tends to be more accommodating through the forefoot and instep than some recreational skates, so it can be a good option for skaters who need a little more room. We still recommend measuring your feet and checking the model-specific sizing information before ordering.
